Osteopathy can be helpfull in a whole range of symptoms
Osteopathy can also be used as a preventive treatment. See it as a kind of maintenance.
The capacity to heal can be impaired by blockages in the spine, joints, organs or fluids in de brain and spine.
This may cause a lacking blood-flow
and a build-up of waste materials in the muscles, skin, organs and a misfiring of neural pain sensation.
The longer in time the situation last, the more symptoms the horse wil show.
Because of the wide scale of hidden symptoms that can occur, with Osteopathy you always treat the whole horse.
Especially in horses, the primary symptoms of pain or discomfort can be very subtle and easily mistaken for random misbehavior.
Treating only symptoms never gets to the origin of the problem, that might have started somewhere else in the body.
We don't treat symptoms, we restore the capacity to heal it's symptoms.
After an intake with the owner,
there will be an full body examination followed by treatment.
Blockages can be found in 3 different systems of the body:
These systems can affect each other, this is why it's necessary to treat them all.
After the treatment the horse needs some recovery time to find his new balance.
Full recovery may take up to 6 weeks
Every horse might react differently to treatment.
Some may feel direct relief and 'fresh'
others may sense muscle ache and stiffness.
It's best not to plan important competitions or heavy trainings soon after a treatment.
It's advised to slowly build up riding intensity within 3 weeks after treatment depending on how the horse reacts and recovers on the treatment.
Week 1: Relative rest, no riding, lunging or exercises.
Give plenty free-range movement in the field or paddock or stepping on the leash (besides the horse)
Week 2: Short rides with loose rein, forward-down riding, choose mobilizing exercises with wide step movements to achieve suppleness
Week 3: Progressive build up riding without forcing
Always allow plenty free range motion
In most cases 1 treatment session is enough.
6 weeks after treatment you can consult me for a free evaluation to see if follow up is needed.
My name is Monique Reenders
I’m a physiotherapist from the Netherlands
who specialized in Osteopathic treatment for Horses.
I finished my 4-year Bachelor of Physiotherapy in Amsterdam in 2006.
Together with working fulltime in a hospital, I finished the 3 year post-bachelor International College and research of Animal Osteopathy (ICREO) in 2015.
ICREO is an Intensive study only for post-graduates with a (para)medical or veterinary background. (www.ICREO.com)
In 2016 I moved to rural Portugal to start a new adventure bringing me closer to nature and animals, which was always my dream as a little girl.
Being around horses and riding was my passion since I was 8 years old.
I feel blessed to be able to combine my passion and work helping the horses I love.
As my location is very central, I will be able to come to all places in Portugal and North of Spain. Although far locations (>2 hours drive) will need some planning with a minimum treatment of 3 horses.
From 20km from my location travel expenses will be charged.
(0,23 ct/km)
Treatment starts from 50 euro per horse depending on location and amount of horses to treat.
